This pocket Colt is serial number 246186 and was produced in mid to late 1863. The weapon is in overall good condition. All surfaces have a dark appearance with very little pitting if any. All numbers match including the wedge.
The octagonal barrel meas. approx. 6.00 inches long with a strong stamping on top in one line “ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA.” Front bead sight is present. Bore is .31 and is clean with good rifling. Barrel surface is mostly dark but does have some minor hints of blue while the loading lever still has some minor case colors.
The 6-shot cylinder has all of the original nipples with 80% of the cylinder scene present. Hammer holds at half-cock when trigger is squeezed. It also holds full cock and falls properly. Cylinder is sloppy and stiff. Frame has worn “COLT’S PATENT” stamping in two lines on the left side. Frame screws are good.
Trigger guard and grip frame show almost all brass with minor spots of oxidation. Wood grips have a nice original finish. Scratched into the finish on one side is “J. W. BLACK CSA 1862” along with some tick marks. Opposite side had something scratched in it but it was blocked out. [ad] [ph:L]
