MODEL 1816 FLINTLOCK BY SIMEON NORTH

$1,095.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1037-92

These single shot flintlock pistols were made by the Connecticut firm of Simeon North between 1817-1820.

Pistol has .54 round smoothbore barrel held to the stock by a single iron double strapped band which a brass blade front sight mounted on the forward most band. The surface of the barrel on this particular example though originally finished brown is now dark with oxidation. Bore is dark and dirty. At the breech the barrel is clearly stamped with a “P” over “US.”

The lock plate has a beveled front and a pointed rear. Between the hammer and the frizzen is a faint spread-winged eagle flanked by a “U” on one side and an “S” on the other. The maker’s name above the eagle is badly worn but clearly seen below the eagle is “MIDLN CONN.” Pan is brass. Hammer has no flint. Hammer holds at half and full-cock and falls properly when hammer is squeezed but action is stiff. Frizzen operate properly.

The wood of the stock is in good condition. Iron furniture is dark. Stock shows the usual wear. There are two small surface cracks near the top escutcheon screw but they are minor. Only the outlines of two cartouches remain. Inset iron backstrap tuns through the grips ending in a butt cap.

Hickory ramrod is missing.   [ad]  [ph:L]
