FRENCH M1892 REVOLVER

Item Code: 1000-2737

The French Model 1892 revolver was produced from 1892 all the way into 1924. It was the standard French military revolver of World War One and although officially replaced in 1935 was still in service in World War Two and in the hands of police later still. They were issued to the army, navy, and to the police. This is a very good example retaining about 80 percent blue finish, just thinning in places and shading to plum on the cylinder and gate/release and gray on the cylinder pin/ejection rod. The checkered wood grip is very good.

The revolver uses a solid frame with a swing-out cylinder holding six 8mm cartridges (about .32 caliber,) and can be fired single or double-action. As a safety measure, the gate/release disengages the hammer when the cylinder is swung out, somewhat awkwardly to the right. Empty shells are ejected simultaneously and a hinged sideplate, released by removing the large screw on the right, permits easy maintenance, along with internal parts numbered in order of disassembly. These are robust pistols, though a bit under-powered.

This example is marked on the top of the frame: “Manufacture Francaise d’Armes / & Cylcels de Saint-Etienne” and is serial numbered 27650 with inspection/proofs on the right barrel at breech.  [sr] [ph:L]
