A Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in good original condition. In production from 1860 through 1873, these handguns were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Model 1860 Army was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 Colt revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This revolver is a .44 caliber, four-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and a round 8” long barrel. All matching serial numbers (7015) on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt strap, and cylinder. Wedge number does not match but is still an early numbered piece, “6156”. Serial number dates the manufacture to early or mid-1861.

Sidearm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and the small notch on the base of the butt plate. Mechanics are strong. Bold barrel address, “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW - YORK U.S. AMERICA”. About half of the cylinder scene remains. Patent date and serial number. The “COLTS / PATENT” mark is on the left side. Original nipples are in good condition; the safety pins are hammered down.

Brass trigger guard shows no traces of silver plating. Brass has a mellow golden patina. Butt / back strap is iron. Patina on gun metal is an overall silver/gray.

Grips are original one-piece walnut in good condition. No cartouches visible.

This is a classic, early war-time production “Colt Army” revolver in very nice condition.  [jet] [ph:L]
