The P38 was the standard service pistol of the German army in World War Two. This one was made by Walther in 1944 and comes with its 1943 dated holster. The slide shows the P38 designation on the left with 6864 C serial number and AC 44 manufacturer code and date indicating production by Walther in 1944. The matching number is visible on the frame just beneath, and on its forward end beneath the barrel. The right side shows the standard eagle and numbered inspection and acceptance stamps. Walther was one of three producers of the pistol, designed to replace the 1908 Luger, accepted in 1938 and going into full production in 1940. It fires a 9mm round and uses a double action for the first, chambered, round and single action thereafter, ejecting spent casings to the left.  The bore is clean, and the action works properly.

The pistol has good thin blue overall with some rubbing and striation, and good Bakelite grips showing some scratches and rubs from use. The magazine is present. We’d rate it about 70 percent in overall original condition. It comes with its original brown leather holster, showing plenty of abrasions and scratches from use and wear in the field, but complete and visibly dated “43” on the reverse between the belt loops.

This is a good example of a U.S. veteran’s “bring-back”. [sr] [ph:m]
