Abram Taylor was an Englishman, born in 1703-4, who migrated to Philadelphia and became a prosperous merchant adventurer, eventually returning to England. During the interim he became quite prominent and moved in the highest Philadelphia circles, becoming a good friend of Benjamin Franklin, and becoming colonel of the Regiment of Associates for Defense that Franklin formed during the latter part of 1747 for the Seven Years War to come.

In this letter, writing to an unnamed friend, he requests information on the behalf of a Mr. Bedford concerning a "Seizure" of some sort made in Philadelphia.

Text:

"I forgot in my letter to you of the 7th instant to tell you that Mr. Bedford has some account of a Seizure being made in Philada..and was with me several times to get some information about it; that in case of his called upon, 10th. he expects, he might be able to say something upon the Subject. He seems uneasy that I can give him no satisfaction on this head, but you know it is not in my power to prevent it, as you have not mentioned any thing of it in any Letter to me----If there be any thing in this, be pleased, as soon as possible to write him concerning it and you will very much oblige him, as well as / Your most humble Servt. / [Signed] Abram Taylor."

Excellent Colonial-era Philadelphia collectible. Accompanied by a brief amount of background material; Invites further research. In protective sleeve.  [jp] [ph:L]
