VERY GOOD M1851 COLT NAVY MADE IN 1854

Item Code: 1142-135

A very good Third Model Colt M1851 .36 Caliber Navy Revolver, serial number 35465, manufactured in 1854. This has matching numbers throughout, the one-line New York barrel address, small Colt’s / Patent stamp on left forward frame, the standard Texas-Mexican naval battle cylinder scene with the Colt’s Patent stamp and serial number. Generally smooth metal overall, some scattered light dings and a little salt and peppering on the rear edge of the barrel assembly, forcing cone and front edge of the cylinder from firing. The lettering and numbering are very good with just some rubbing to the Colts / Patent frame stamp. The barrel address is sharp and the cylinder scene is very good. The nipples show some crustiness, but are not battered.  Mechanics work properly and well.

The barrel and frame show some remnants of color. The barrel shows thinning and graying to the bluing, with the edges showing some rubbing to light gray, but there traces of thin blue on the underside of the barrel and some blue spots near the muzzle, very thin, faint blue near the wedge on the left, along with some bluish gray on the left rear frame that is faint, muted case. There are significant remnants of silver on the backstrap, triggerguard and grip strap. The grips show very good fit, edges, and varnish, with just minor handling marks and some small, thin chips to the surface.

This is a very good example of the classic Colt revolver with nice pre-Civil War date of manufacture.  [sr] [ph:m]
