This .31 caliber pocket Colt is serial number 152605 and was produced in the first half of 1859. At some point this revolver was cut down and made into a “belly gun.” This name is given to any easily concealed weapons that could be shoved into the belly of an antagonist.
The weapon is in overall nice condition. All surfaces have a uniform appearance with only light pitting and wear. Serial numbers match on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, and cylinder. The wedge in unnumbered. The loading lever was removed when the barrel was cut down.
The octagonal barrel is 2.2” long with a good readable stamp, “ADDRESS SAML. COLT / NEW YORK CITY”. Front bead sight is present. The 5-shot cylinder has all of the original nipples with some of the cylinder scene present. Safety pins are smashed down. Action is good and works properly. Cylinder is tight at full-cock. Frame has a “COLT’S PATENT” stamping in two lines on the left side. All screw heads are in good condition. Trigger guard and grip frames retain only minor traces silver finish. Wood grips remain in good condition with the expected small dings.
An interesting, modified example of the M1849 Colt. [jet] [ph:L]
