MODEL 1860 COLT ARMY REVOLVER

$1,850.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 490-5713

This is a Civil War Model 1860 Colt Army revolver in good original condition. In production from 1860 through 1873, these handguns were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Model 1860 Army was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 Colt revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This revolver is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and an 8” long barrel. All matching serial numbers (85379) on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt strap, cylinder (well worn), and even on the wedge. Serial number dates the manufacture to early-1863.

Sidearm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and the small notch on the base of the butt plate. Mechanics work but are slightly loose and clunky. Barrel address, “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW - YORK U.S. AMERICA” is strong. At some time, an additional notch sight was mortised into the breech end of the barrel. None of the rolled cylinder scene remain visible. Patent date and only last two numbers of the serial number are visible. The “COLTS / PATENT” stamp on the left side remains strong as does the “44 CAL.” Original nipples; safety pins smashed down.

Brass trigger guard has a mellow patina with scattered traces of silver plate. All gunmetal is dark gray/brown overall with scattered mottling. Grips are original one-piece walnut in good condition. One short hairline crack on upper right side. No cartouches.

This is a classic, mid-war production “Colt Army” revolver in good condition.  [jet] [ph:L]
