This is a nice Model 1851 Colt Navy revolver. It is a .36 caliber revolver with six-shot cylinder, a 7 ½” octagonal barrel with attached loading lever, and iron frame with round trigger guard. All parts (included the wedge) share a matching serial number of 89595 which was manufactured in late-1858.

The top of the barrel is marked “ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT” and the left side of the frame is marked “COLTS / PATENT / U.S.”  All gun metal has a nice dark pewter patina with scattered wear and light pitting.  The cylinder features much of the engraved cylinder scene of a battle between the Texas Navy and the Mexican Navy amid some wear and pitting. Safety pins on cylinder are all slightly worn down. Mechanically fine. The grip straps are iron; butt strap stamped “U.S.N.” The original grips are one-piece walnut showing wear. Stamping on butt next to the strap in “I / GWR”.

An original and complete martially marked model 1851 Colt revolver in good condition.  [jet]  [ph:L]
