This Allen & Wheelock double-action percussion pepperbox pistol in is very good original condition. Known by a number of trade names, this pepperbox pistol was made in New York during the 1850s and is a .31 caliber, four-shot, cap and ball specimen with an iron frame, a rotating 2.5” fluted barrel and a bar hammer. Stamped in the barrel flutes is the maker’s name “ALLEN & WHEELOCK” and "Patented / 1845." and serial number "[bird head] 494". In addition, the hammer’s left side shows “ALLEN'S PATENT / JAN. 13, 1857"”. Pistol has decorative scroll engravings on the iron frame. Mechanics of the pistol are very strong. Gun metal exhibits smooth aged tones. Two-piece rosewood wood grips are in very good condition. An original, small Allen & Wheelock Hammer pepperbox pistol in very good condition. [jet] [ph:L] |
