This percussion sidearm is an early four-screw Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in nice condition. The Colt Army revolver was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This mid-1863 production Colt sidearm has a brass trigger guard, steel backstrap. Matching serial numbers, 116430, on all parts including wedge.

This is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and an 8” long round barrel. Marked "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" on top of barrel. Bore is clear with some oxidation with strong rifling. Loading lever operates as it should.

Cylinder exhibits no traces of the rolled naval engagement scene. All original nipples are good; all safety pins hammered down. Faint serial number and patent stamps. The frame is marked “COLTS / PATENT” on the left side. Mechanics work well, with strong spring action. This martial sidearm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and a small notch in the butt strap originally designed to attach a shoulder stock. Small sub-inspector’s marks on several parts.

Grips are original one-piece walnut in very good condition with minor wear. Two government cartouches are clearly visible.

All gun metal exhibits a very fine surface pitting and the metal was overcleaned at some point causing some of the faint markings. The surface now wears a subdued, semi-bright appearance.

All in all, a very solid and complete Colt “Army” revolver. [jet][ph:L]
