This is a .28 caliber, 5 shot, single action, percussion revolver, with a 3.5” barrel. Maker barrel mark: “COLT’S PT.  ADDRESS COL. COLT / 1855 HARTFORD, CT USA”. Serial numbers (11625) are on barrel, cylinder, and butt. This dates its manufacture to early-1856.

Barrel and frame retain much of the original blue with a fine smooth surface. Side hammer and cylinder mechanics remain solid. Cylinder scene etching of “cabin and Indian” remains visible. Walnut grip displays attractive grain, color, and varnish with only light wear.

Most commonly known among collectors as the “Root Model” after Elisha K. Root, the noted Colt designer, this side-hammer revolver has its unique niche in Colt history. Produced on the eve of the Civil War, this gun exudes character.

A very attractive Colt revolver.  [jet][ph:L]
