Presented here is a classic Colt cap and ball revolver commonly referred to as the 1849 Pocket Model. This personal sidearm is in very good original condition.

This fine revolver features a 6” long, octagonal barrel matched to a .31 caliber, five-shot cylinder that has a roll pressed design retaining much of the “stagecoach holdup” scene. “ADDRESS COL SAML COLT / NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA” is stamped on the top facet of the barrel. Bore is clear with scattered, light oxidation and good rifling.

The standard “COLTS / PATENT” is stamped on the left side of the frame. Screw heads are in good condition. All serial numbers (224647) match, including wedge. Number indicates that this was manufactured in early 1863.

Gun metal is dark gray overall with patches of blue and plum on barrel and loading lever. Some case colors remain on lower frame. Revolver is mechanically sound with strong spring and good indexing. Original nipples. Safety pins are all hammered down.

Grips are of varnished, one-piece, walnut in good condition. Strong and tight, grips have minor wear along bottom edges. Back strap and the trigger guard are brass with perhaps 95% of original silver-plated wash remaining.

Known as the successor to the Baby Dragoon, the Model 1849 Pocket was a small version of the Model 1851 Navy revolver and proved ever popular through its end of production in 1873. Here is a very fine example of this Colt firearm.  [jet] [ph:L]
