This Allen double-action percussion pepperbox pistol in fair condition. Known by a number of trade names, this pepperbox pistol was made in Norwich, CT. It is a .31 caliber, six-shot, cap and ball specimen with an iron frame, a rotating 3.25” fluted barrel, nipple shield, and a bar hammer. Stamped in the barrel flutes is the agent’s name, “BOLEN” and "Patented 1837 CAST STEEL". These stampings are hard to read due to very small letters and fine pitting. No markings on the frame. Pistol has decorative scroll engraving on the iron frame. Trigger/hammer mechanics work but the barrel does not rotate. Gun metal exhibits wear with aged tones and fine peppering overall. Two-piece rosewood wood grips feature oval inlays and show some wear and a few small cracks. An original and well used .31 caliber pepperbox pistol. [jet] [ph:L] |
