This iron mounted .45 caliber "Screw Barrel" single shot flintlock pistol is in fine condition. Its walnut stock has raised carved panels and a silver wrist escutcheon. The 4 1/2-inch three stage barrel unscrews easily to facilitate loading. All the other iron furniture is finely wrought. The open work side plate across from the lock plate has motifs of sea serpents. The long-strapped iron butt plate has a grotesque face hiding its end-cap screw. The overall length of the weapon is 9 1/2 inches. In its original ca. 1745 configuration in every respect this is a museum quality firearm. [pe][ph:L]
