The 13-inch iron barrel and the lock plate are French and date ca. 1760 on this original flint and steel .60 caliber handgun. But "the collar does not match the cuffs"; the barrel and lock are Rococo/Continental styling with both raised relief and engraving while the stock and brass mounts are far more reserved. The stock appears to be of English/American taste from the last quarter of the 18th century as does the brass hardware. This is an elegant pistol in fine condition. Based on where it has been for well over a century it is probably an American restocking. The butt stock and brass butt plate scream America. There is a simple 1-inch wrist escutcheon.  The mechanics are strong and except for a later added ramrod the pistol is 100% original.   [pe][ph:L]
