This pistol dates about 1770. The maker is un-known, but the quality is very fine. Totally iron mounted the half round half octagonal barrel is 9 inches long. The caliber is .60 caliber. The bulbus butt plate has long straps on either side. The 2 ramrod entry pipes, the side plate and the trigger guard are all iron of good quality. The lock plate is flat as is the cock. the flash pan is facetted. The top jaw and screw are original. The mechanics are perfect. The walnut stock is relief carved in addition to incised decorative lines. The original wooden ramrod has a marine ivory tip. There are minor wood slivers out along the barrel on the left side. Although the metal surfaces are rust and pitting free, they would benefit from an oiling. This pistol is exactly what a French officer would have used during our and their Revolutions.  [pe][ph:L]
