Parker made this elegant pistol around the time of the American Revolution either as a single or one of a pair. The iron 9 inch octagonal to round barrel is struck with 2 Birmingham commercial proofs. It has a nice gray mottled patina, and the caliber is .60. The flat lock measures 4 1/2 inches and is inscribed "Parker" in script. It has a "roller frizzen" and is in unaltered flint while all its components are original. The mechanics are excellent. The walnut stock is in good condition with no apparent losses and has all brass mounts. It has an open work side plate and one of the screws holding the lock has a chip out of it. The brass butt plate has 5-inch-long straps. The brass trigger guard has a high relief acorn finial but sadly it has been cracked in a couple of spots and repaired; the work looks contemporaneous to the pistols use. There are 2 brass ramrod pipes, and the original brass tipped ramrod is in place under the barrel. There is some fine silver wire inlay work on the stock between the barrel tang and the engraved, "JPV", brass oval wrist escutcheon. The overall length is 16 inches. A classic example of an English flint lock pistol from the beginning of the last quarter of the 18th century. [pe] [ph:L]
