This is a rare .31 caliber, six-shot, iron frame Warner Patent Belt Model revolver made by Springfield Arms Company. Manufactured in 1851, perhaps as few as 100 of these were made.
This revolver has a 6” round barrel with brass bead site at the muzzle. Gun metal is gray with scattered dark spotting and a few dings overall. Bore has scattered pitting with decent rifling. The top strap extending off the barrel, the frame, trigger guard, and backstrap are all finely engraved. Cylinder is acid etched and retains much of its floral and scroll patterns. Top strap is faintly stamped “SPRINGFIELD ARMS CO.” Amid the engraving on the right side of the frame, “WARNER’S PATENT” is lightly visible with only the “JAN” portion of the patent date visible below. The underside of the top strap and the cylinder are stamped with serial number “21H”. The gun was loaded from the front of the cylinder. All percussion nipples show wear but are not hammered down. Indexes well. This has a small, round trigger guard and a top mounted hammer. The top strap has a small crack at the end running out from the screw hole; the screw may be a replacement.
To take the gun apart, a single screw on the top of the frame needed to be removed. Then the barrel and top strap could be rolled 90-degrees to the right and pulled off the cylinder pin. The cylinder then slid straight off the central pin.
The dark walnut grip remains in good condition with expected small dings and scratches.
Overall condition is good, showing honest use. [jet][ph:L]
