Between 1790 and 1840 Parker under Royal Warrant firearms of all sorts. And was the first authorized by Sir Robert Peel to make pistols for the newly formed London police in 1829. As Parker, Field & Sons, formed in 1850; he supplied many Enfield rifles to the Confederacy.

Probably a single from a cased dueling this original flint .65 caliber original flint and steel weapon is in fine condition. The 10-inch iron smooth bore octagonal barrel was made with a false Damascus finish. It is held in place with 2 iron keys. It has an open rear sight at its "Patent Breech" and a small iron front sight. A patent breech is a type of breech design used in muzzleloading firearms, especially in flintlock and percussion-era rifles, where the breech end of the barrel is built into the barrel itself rather than being a separate plug. It typically features an “antechamber” behind the main bore, which is designed to channel the spark or flame from the flash hole into the powder charge. The barrel is engraved in tiny letters "HOLBORN" and "LONDON". It is dirty from age but shows no wear or pitting.

The extra quality lock plate has a waterproof pan, a "roller frizzen" and a slide safety. It has the maker’s name "W, PARKER" on it. The walnut stock has a sort of "Bag Butt" with finely checkered grips. A small silver wrist escutcheon has had the initials on it intentionally defaced. There is a 2 inch long by 1/4 inch sliver of wood replaced on the forestock above the rear key. The original horn tipped ramrod is held in place by 2 iron pipes. The trigger guard has a larger than usual bowl typically seen on duelers; it has a nice "patriotic" motif engraved on it and a quality "pineapple" finial. This is a nice example made by a well-known maker. [pe] [ph:L]
