This brass handled saber bayonet measures approximately 25” overall with a 20” long blade. Manufactured by Collins & Company in Hartford, Conn. and so marked on ricasso. Stamped “1861” on opposite side. Fuller is nearly 14” long. Blade is gray with patches of fine pitting. There are no nicks on the blade edge.
The hilt is cast brass. The patina is dark and untouched yellow. The cross guard, ribbed grip, and locking spring in the handle are all in excellent condition. Stamped “90” on flat top of grip. Cut-out slot for lug is approximately 1.25” long. A nice bayonet. [jet] [ph:L]
