A lighter frame version of the M1886 with same chambering as the M1873. Made 1892-1941, This is number 216566, giving it a 1903 date of manufacture. In .38 caliber, with short magazine and half octagon – half round barrel. Front and adjustable buckhorn rear sights in place. Sharp markings on frame, tang, and barrel. The barrel shows about 50% thin blue with rubbing to edges, strong toward the breech with more wear and some gray spotting on the forward round section. Smooth metal overall. Receiver tang, stock tip and buttplate show as gunmetal gray mixed with some thin brown. Lever shows some thin grayish blue on sides. Wood to metal fit is tight. Minor scratches to wood, mostly left belly, with some natural wear to finish on left butt flat. Barrel measures 23 ½” in length. Good rifling but bore has some pitting. Mechanics function well.
Slightly over a million of these were produced, with a good number of variations in caliber and configuration making it a good collecting category in itself. [sr] [ph:L]
