Item Code: 1140-64

This Marlin stands out with 90% or better overall original finish and a pistol-grip checkered stock with attractive grain. The octagon barrel has full coverage of blue shifting toward plum brown showing just a light rubbing to the edges. Both sights are in place. Barrel address and patent dates are crisp. The magazine tube has full coverage and shows as a matt blue. The hammer shows mostly as gray. The lever shows some faint case color. The receiver has shifted to plum brown on the sides, with the bolt showing blue and slight rubbing to the edges of the knob. The screwheads show thin blue with some of the ends on the left showing bright. The underside shows as a thin brown from handling. The tang shows a thin caramel brown, lighter toward the rear, with crisp “Marlin. / Model ‘92” lettering. The wood is tight to the metal and particularly nice, showing attractive color, grain and finish with the pistol grip and hand rest portions of the stock finely and crisply checkered. The buttplate, hard rubber, is also finely checkered and bears a central Marlin logo. Barrel measures 23 3/8”; bore is clean with good rifling. Mechanics function well.

The Model 1892 was made from 1895-1916, with total production of about 45,000. Serial numbers were mixed with those of other models and fall between 92,000 and 412,000. This one is numbered 333388 (with the 3s and 8s looking much alike,) giving it a 1906 date. We do not see a caliber marking on the barrel, but it is .22 caliber, which Flayderman notes is scarce.    [sr] [ph:L]
