.58 cal. percussion. Lockplate marked forward of the hammer with wing spread eagle and “U.S./SPRINGFIELD.” Dated 1864 at rear of lockplate. Lockplate exhibits some case colors (50%) with hammer exhibiting even more (80%). Semi-bright barrel with very very fine pepper pitting the entire surface. Breech with correct proof marks and barrel date of “1864”. Rear sight with 90% original blue finish. Mechanically perfect. Walnut stock with VF+ pair of cartouches. Stock has .5” high numbers “237/1495” stamped just forward of the butt on side opposite the lock. Light coat of varnish on stock. Mint bore! Overall a nice example.
