Card has an orange mount with “BATTLEFIELD OF GETTYSBURG” on one edge and “W. H. TIPTON & CO. GETTYSBURG, PA.” on the other.
View is of the gate to the Soldier’s National Cemetery with the camera set up in the Baltimore Pike looking west. Visible are the four gate posts listing the names of the Northern states which took part in the battle. The two central post are topped by a spread-winged eagle while each is flanked by a post supporting an urn. A lone individual stnds in front of one of the gates.
This view was taken before the erection of the statue of General Reynolds which now stands just inside the gate and the New York State Monument which now stands a little further back
Caption at bottom of the card reads “599 – FRONT VIEW OF ENTRANCE TO SOLDIER’S NATIONAL CEMETERY.”
Reverse is blank.
