Image was taken from the summit of Little Round Top with the camera facing northwest. The camera looks to be set up just in front of where the monument to Hazlett’s Battery now stands. The view is across the summit of Little Round Top toward the large rock on which the statue of General Warren now stands. The view overlooks the Trostle, Klingle and Cadori farms including the fields of Pickett’s Charge. There are no monuments visible on the fields. The Wheatfield Road and future Crawford Ave can be seen as well as the John Weickert farm buildings.
Clarity and contrast are excellent in the foreground but the background is a bit light. However, details can be easily discerned. Image also has some age spotting in the area of the sky and a small 1.00-inch area of discoloration on the rocks in the foreground.
Reverse has a complete intact label for Tipton identifying this as image “2007F – LOOKING TOWARD GETTYSBURGFROM LITTLE ROUND TOP TO CEMETERY AND CULP’S HILL; THE TROSTLE, ROGERS, CODORI AND WEIKERT HOUSES; THE GROUND CHARGED OVER BT PICKETT, &c.”
Image meas. 16.00 x 12.00 inches and comes in the original glazed oak frame with oakleaf border. Framed, the item meas. 24.75 x 20.50 x 0.50 inches. There is glass on both sides so the image and the Tipton label can be seen. Due to the double glass the item is heavy.
There is a modern tag attached that reads “WASHINGTON COUNTY (MD) MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, CIVIL WAR EXHIBIT, HAGERSTOWN, MD.”
Item comes ready to hang. [ad] [ph:L]
