Pitcher displays Soldier’s National Monument that is nestled on the location reported to be near where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address in the Gettysburg National Cemetery. The image on the pitcher illustrates the monument’s features of Genius Liberty on top clutching a sword in one hand and wreath in the other symbolizing the ongoing struggle for freedom, and that base sits four marble statues of history, war, peace, and plenty. The cornerstone for the monument was laid on July 4, 1865 and finished July 1, 1869.
The pitcher is a darken, glazed earthenware. The pitcher measures 5 ¼” from base to lip, and the fluted base is 2” in diameter. The image of the Soldier’s Monument is a transfer pattern and “GETTYSBURG JULY 1, 2, 3, 1863” is written below. The handle has single gold vertical stripe. The top of the pitcher’s base has three alternating gold and blue lines. The pitcher is in good condition with no scrapes or cracks. There is no maker stamp on the item. [mk] [ph:L]
