This is a typical iron cannon ball of the era. Hollow iron ball filled with case shot and would have had a Bormann time fuse. For 12-pounder "Napoleon" cannons.
No Bormann fuse. Iron under plug remains. Iron body shows scattered dings, but no rust or pitting. Case shot rattles around inside.
This relic of the Battle of Gettysburg comes with wood stand. A paper label tacked to the front of the stand reads, “12LB U.S. SPHERICAL SHELL RECOVERED FROM GETTYSBURG BATTLEFIELD. FROM GETTYSBURG G.A.R. COLLECTION.” [jet] [ph:L]
