View was done by H. E. Weaver of Washington, D.C. and shows the monument to the 157TH New York Infantry on Howard Ave near the intersection with the Carlisle Road.
The view is taken from Howard Ave looking south. The fences along the Carlisle Road are visible in the left background.
Contrast and clarity are good. Mount has some minor staining in the upper right corner. Paper is excellent.
The reverse has a small paper label with Weaver’s name in the lower left corner and a larger printed label at upper right that reads “GETTYSBURG BATTLEFIELD, ALONG FIRST DAY’S FIGHT, 157TH N.Y.” with “1906” in pencil.
The 157TH New York lost 27 men killed, 166 wounded and 114 missing at Gettysburg.
The monument was erected in 1886. [ad] [PH:L]
