This bullet in wood measures 2.75” x 4” x 1”, with a Minie ball embedded in it.
This relic was once part of the famous Lee's Headquarters Museum at Gettysburg which was located in the former Widow Thompson home on the Chambersburg Pike (currently US Route 30 West). Started in the spring of 1922 by Mr. C.F. Daley, the Lee Museum, as it was called then, displayed all manner of artifacts found on the Gettysburg battlefield by local residents. In 1998 the museum underwent an extensive renovation, with many items being de-accessioned to raise funds to complete the project. The Horse Soldier was the exclusive dealer of these items, including this piece. The museum remained privately owned until 2015. After completing the acquisition of the property, the American Battlefield Trust undertook an effort to restore the landscape to reflect its appearance on July 1, 1863. This item was originally Catalog# LH144 in our print catalog 28, and was Item# 244-289. [LD] [PH:L]
