NICE U.S. 3.67” SCHENKL SHELL FROM GETTYSBURG

$895.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 410-237

This odd sized Shenkl shell was used in rifled 6-pounder cannons. This shell was fired but remains in very good condition. Likely an early pick-up. There are only broken remains of the fuse adaptor left screwed into the nose. This style has recessed grooves for the sabot as opposed to the usual raised “ribs”.

Iron surfaces remain smooth and clean. Painted on nose is “89” as an old stock number. Portion of an old typed label remains pasted into one of the recessed grooves – “_____field  from / ____tion, U____t”.

Interior is empty; a very nice artillery shell. Reportedly from Gettysburg.   [JET] [ph:L]
