This excavated plate has a brass face with smooth brown patina and a little dirt. The detail on the eagle is good. The reverse has 99% of the lead fill. Both iron hooks have rusted away. Plate marked with “L.P.” and date.
Recovered from “Longstreet Park” at Gettysburg by author/publisher Dean Thomas. Longstreet Park was a shady picnic area generally near the Longstreet Observation Tower and behind Johnny Johnson’s snack and relic stand.
A very nice “Gettysburg dug” breast plate. [jet] [ph:L]
