This Federal belt plate is of the regulation 1839 pattern and was recovered on the grounds of Camp Letterman General Hospital, Gettysburg.
Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the brass accoutrement’s face shows a clear “US” despite some oxidation around edges. The edge remains in perfect condition. Lead filled back retains 100% of lead fill. No maker’s mark. This is the style with “puppy-paw” hooks. One of the “puppy paws” is pulled and slightly bent, and the belt hook is broken off. A nice relic in excellent “dug” condition.
An old tape label is attached to the back noting location. Additionally, two string tags reiterate the recovery location. Camp Letterman relics are uncommon. [jet] [ph:L]
