Offered here is a fine relic of the Battle of Gettysburg. This is an oval U.S. plate that would have been attached to the front flap of an infantry cartridge box.
This piece is in very good “relic” condition and was recovered long ago by a local relic hunter. The brass face clearly features the central “US” and has a dark patina with lightly polished highlights. A very slight bend on the left side.
The lead fill on the back remains fine and both iron loops remain.
Recovered on the grounds of the Riley Farm along Ridge Road near the South Cavalry Field. [jet][PH:L]
