$75.00 SOLD

Item Code: 2024-1647

This excavated bridle boss, also known as a rosette, is a soldier-carved, brass device found on each cheek of a Civil War cavalry horse bit. Recovered from the East Cavalry battlefield sometime after the battle, this cavalry boss has been modified with the complete removal of the upper and lower tang. The resulting bridle boss bit looks like a 1¼” diameter disc with the recessed center portion displaying a fine stippled background. Two ½” high, raised letters “U S” sit on the background. Retains light surface grime. A trooper-carved piece of Federal horse equipment from the East Cavalry Gettysburg battlefield.
