Measuring 13-1/4” by 18-1/2” and weighing 13lbs, this cast iron plaque has a polychrome oval portrait bust of Lincoln at top in a wreath, flanked by US flags. A narrow, raised border frames the speech itself with the title and text in raised letters showing medium bright against a dark ground, titled LINCOLNS GETTYSBURG SPEECH at top and with the speech’s date and facsimile Lincoln signature at bottom.
Small holes at top and bottom enable it to be bolted in place. This could have been used in a school or public building, but the full color portrait bust and flags may have been intended to give it a wider appeal. The condition is very good. We see just chipping to the white paint on one star and some very minor rubs or losses otherwise. An interesting example of the continued appeal and significance of Gettysburg and Lincoln not only in serious history, but in popular culture. [sr][ph:L]
