This cabinet card features the unique and easily recognizable monument to the 11th Mass. Infantry at Gettysburg, which stands at the intersection of Sickles Avenue and the Emmitsburg Road. The unusual design of an upraised arm with the hand grasping a sword comes from the Massachusetts state flag.
The card and image are in very good condition; the image is somewhat light in contrast. Some light soiling, mostly at lower corners. Front photographer’s mark at bottom of mount: “W.H. Tipton / GETTYSBURG, PA.” Printed white caption at bottom of image which is somewhat faded and blurred. Reverse is blank. [ld] [ph:L]
