This handsome photograph shows a group of well-dressed individuals among the towering rocks of Devil’s Den. A notation from the original negative is present and reads “#1151 AT DEVIL’S DEN 9-18-10”. While the photographer is not credited, the catalogue number and title are fairly similar to those often seen on the negatives of photographer William Tipton (thought we cannot be certain).
The photo is in excellent condition with no notable wear or damage and is mounted to a light gray card. The card shows minor corner wear, with mild loss at lower right. The reverse is blank and clean, with a penciled “4B6” at the upper left corner. Overall measurements are 8” x 10”.
This photo has broad appeal as a Civil War related and an early Gettysburg Park piece that would display beautifully. A striking addition to any Gettysburg collection. [cm][ph:L]
