The Gettysburg Ice & Storage Company, located off of North Washington Street, operated from 1906 to 1954. During its nearly 50 years in operation, the company manufactured not only ice but also ice cream and dairy products. After declaring bankruptcy in 1954, the company was sold through a sheriff's sale in August 1955. The property is now owned by Gettysburg College and is called the Ice House Complex. [LD][ph:L]
