This relic was recovered by famed relic hunter Ken Bream from private property near Culp’s Hill at an unknown date, and purchased from the 2021 auction of his collection.  This item was from Lot# 80.

Mr. Bream was born and raised in Gettysburg and grew up in a house right next to the famous Peach Orchard. He graduated from Gettysburg High School and for a while worked for Johnny Johnson who owned General Longstreet’s Headquarters Museum which once stood on Seminary Ridge, right along Confederate Avenue near the Longstreet Headquarters marker. Mr. Bream obtained some relics from this now defunct museum and dug many more on private property surrounding the battlefield and on the Confederate approach and retreat routes. He also worked for the Eisenhower’s on their farm in the 60s and 70s

The lock plate is in dug condition with expected pitting.  The hammer screw is missing but the sear and tumbler are present. A layer of clear topcoat preserves the integrity of the steel and prevents further corrosion.  No markings remain visible.

A fine Gettysburg relic with respected provenance and a popular location – ideal for the battle collector.    [cm][ph:L]
