This stereo view was published and sold by the Mumper Photography Company of Gettysburg, one of a few earlier commercial photographers (a Civil War veteran, no less) that were instrumental in documenting the battlefield. It features a northwest view from the summit of Little Round Top, and shows the original location of the first of two 91st Pennsylvania Infantry monuments (the smaller one shown in this image was later moved to the “Hazlett/Weed” mortal wounding rock and a tribute to both men were added to the text).
The image is in excellent condition and mounted to a pale-yellow card. The card shows very light surface dirt but all edges and corners are sharp and crisp. The reverse features a Mumper and Company commercial stamp, and a period notation reads “Little Round Top looking north.” in oxidized ink.
An attractive remnant of the effort to memorialize Gettysburg, featuring one of the most iconic views of the Civil War. [cm] [ph:L]
