Gettysburg souvenir Mauchline ware sewing item called a darning mushroom.  A detailed transfer on the top reads “Virginia State Memorial, Gettysburg, PA.”.  The bottom opens to reveal a compartment for storing sewing needles.   Mauchline ware souvenirs were made in Scotland from the 19^th through the early 20^th century.  Sycamore wood was used which when varnished created a warm honey colored look.  This example is circa 1917-1920 and measures approx. 2 ¾” in diameter and 4 ¼” long.  In very good condition, with one small nick near the top of image.  Marked Scotland on back.  [DM][ph:L]
