This large powder flask is constructed of copper with brass spout. Body has a few small dents but overall this piece is in fine condition with attractive patina. “Dram” measurements are marked on adjustable spout. Brass cap is stamped “James Dixon & Sons / Sheffield”.

Of special interest is the paper label attached to the body with “Gettysburg, PA” written in old ink. This piece is from the collection that was housed at the York Springs GAR Post 551.  Many of the items were collected and curated by David Starry, a Civil War veteran who served in an emergency regiment detailed to the Military District of Gettysburg after the battle for administrative, medical, and cleanup duties, before being mustered out in town.  [ph:L]
