This dual image, negative #557, captures a view of the Leister House at Gettysburg, used by General Meade as his headquarters for the bulk of the battle.  This piece is from the Tipton and Myers Stereoscopic series, first published in the early 1880’s.  The image is mounted to an orange card with associated Tipton commercial text.  Very light edge wear does little to detract from overall presentation. The reverse is finished in a pink paper layer with a J. A. Danner inventory label reading “From J. A. Danner’s Relic and Water Room, Gettysburg”. Mild discoloration is noted at the edges, with a very light stain at center. Dimensions are 3.5” x 7”.

A true gem for the collector of early Gettysburg images and memorabilia and instantly recognizable among famous Civil War structures.   [cm][ph:L]
