This stereo view photograph features the famous “Gettysburg Gun” of the 1st RI, Battery B, which was hit by incoming fire during the Confederate bombardment preceding “Pickett’s Charge”.  When a Confederate round struck the muzzle of the gun, two men were killed and two others rushed to finish loading the gun.  Despite the dent in the tube, a desperate effort was made to forcefully load the gun, which by then had cooled and trapped the projectile for the remainder of history.  The “Gettysburg Gun” became something of a celebrity artifact, and remains on display in Rhode Island as of this writing.

The dual image, reproduced by Tipton from the original for retail sale, is mounted to a yellow card in good condition with minimal wear.  The reverse is clean and features a large commercial Tipton label that lists associated retail offerings. Dimensions are 3.5” x 7”.
