This view, showing the meadow over which the 2nd Massachusetts and 27th Indiana charged on the morning of July 3rd, was reproduced by William Tipton in a stereoscopic format for retail sale. The mounting card features Tipton commercial text on either side of the front face and shows minimal wear.  A large commercial label on the reverse details other related retail offerings, and features a Tipton stamp at center. Dimensions are 3.4” x 7”.

William H. Tipton (1850–1929) was one of the most prominent American photographers of the late 19th century, best known for his exhaustive visual documentation of the Gettysburg Battlefield and the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. His massive body of work serves as a foundational historical record for the National Park Service and Civil War historians.   [cm][ph:L]
