Offered is this interesting antique photograph taken by L. Mumper of Gettysburg – featuring a group of tourists circa the early 1900’s. The image is in excellent condition, with very mild surface dirt, and mounted to a dark gray card.  The card shows minor chipping at the corners and in localized edge areas. The reverse is blank, save for a Mumper stamp reading, “L. MUMPER / Photographer / 7 STRATTON ST. / GETTYSBURG - - PA”. Around 1898, Levi Mumper phased out of his primary commercial studio at 25 Baltimore Street, passing operations to his son Jacob. Levi then utilized the Stratton Street location for his remaining photographic work. Dimensions are 7.7” x 10”.

Mumper & Co. was a prominent 19th-century photography studio in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, founded by Civil War veteran Levi H. Mumper. Operating for nearly a century as a multi-generational family enterprise, the firm became famous for its battlefield landscapes, stereoviews, and tourist portraiture.

An excellent earlier Gettysburg photograph that would display beautifully among any Civil War photography collection.  [cm][ph:L]
