This uncommon image shows a northwesterly view of the Gettysburg Soldiers National Cemetery and the lower ground of the town beyond.  The original vision of William Saunders is displayed by bisecting walking paths, which were later removed.

The dual photo is mounted to an orange card with very minor corner and edge wear. A label, mounted horizontally on the reverse, denotes the photo (#597) as a commercial offering of TIPTON AND MYERS STEREOSCOPIC VIEWS.  Tipton and Myers purchased the Tyson brothers studio in 1868 and Myers sold his interest in 1873 (and was fully phased out of marketing by 1880).  Their business space is listed as Excelsior Galleries, the earliest iteration of their studio – placing this card among their earlier retail offerings. The reverse face shows light surface dirt and miniscule corner and edge wear.  Dimensions are 3.5” x 7”.

Operating as the Tipton & Myers Excelsior Gallery from late 1868 until the partnership dissolved in 1880, the duo consisted of William H. Tipton—who famously branded himself as "The Battlefield Photographer"—and Robert A. Myers.
