This fine stereo view image (#857 – “View on Big Round Top”) features one of the large rock outcroppings near the summit of Big Round Top, complete with posing tourists for scale. The dual photo is mounted for a pale-yellow card with Tipton commercial text on either side. Wear to corners and edges is minimal. The reverse is blank and clean, save for a spot of surface loss from removed adhesive. Dimensions are 4” x 7”.
William Henry Tipton (August 5, 1850 – September 20, 1929) was one of America's most famous 19th-century landscape photographers, renowned for capturing thousands of iconic, early images of the Gettysburg Battlefield.
A truly uncommon piece from the Tipton catalogue – ideal for the Gettysburg or Civil War photography collector. [cm][ph:L]
